Amazon.in launches its largest Fulfilment Centre in West Bengal ahead of the festive season
Expansion will ensure faster fulfilment of customer orders in West Bengal and neighboring regions
New infrastructure will extend support tothe wide selection of products offered by close to 20000sellers in West Bengal
Doubles storage capacity this year, with total storage capacity ofmore than2 million cubic feet in West Bengal
Amazon.intoday announced the launch of West Bengal’s largest Fulfilment Centre (FC) in Kolkata. This will help Amazon.indouble its storage capacity in the state, and expand its infrastructure footprintto enhancecustomer experience ahead of the festive season. The new FCin Kolkata hasmore than750,000 cubic feet of storage space and will enable faster deliveries of customer orders within the region and neighboring states. With this infrastructure, Amazon.innow has storage capacity of more than 2 million cubic feetspread across 5FulfilmentCentres in West Bengal. Amazon India will exit 2019 with more than 50 FulfilmentCentres in 13 states across the country with a combined storage space of more than 26 million cubic feet.
Commenting on the launch, Akhil Saxena, Vice President, India Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India, said, “In line with our vision of making e-commerce a part of everyday life, and transforming how India buys and sells, we have launched West Bengal’s largest Fulfilment Centre, and doubled our storage capacity in the state. The new infrastructure will enable us to serve our customers better, and will further help us support small & medium businesses in the region to fulfil their customer orders seamlessly. Our deep investments in the state will also create thousands of opportunities for employment. These associates will help in augmenting our capabilities to serve our customers better and enable us to consistently deliver best in class customer experience”.
Amazon has one of the most advanced fulfilment networks in the world and sellers in India have been benefitting from Amazon’s expertise in fulfilment, reliable nationwide delivery and customer service. When using Fulfilment By Amazon (FBA), sellers across India send their products to Amazon’s FCs and once an order is placed, Amazon picks, packs & ships the order to the customer, provides customer service support and manages returns on behalf of the sellers. The FC in West Bengalwill cater to customer demand for products in categories such as Smartphones, Consumer Electronics, Appliances, Fashion and Consumables (FMCG).
Earlier this month, Amazon.in announced the expansion of its delivery network across the country. In West Bengal, the company has close to 85 Amazon owned and Service Partner delivery stations, which is a 1.5x increase in delivery network from last year. Additionally, Amazon India also doubled the processing capacity of its Sort Centers in the state from 50,000 sq. ft. in 2018 to more than 100,000 square feet this festive season.
