North-East Indian rural ambience is the focal theme of Sarswati Puja 2019 of 'Thanthania Yubak Sangha

'
.
Located about 200 metres from the busy College Street-MG Road intersection in Central Calcutta, this 90 years-old Saraswati Puja is a landmark event of the locality.
It is continuing with great fanfare since 1932, having started by Jaiswal Sangha. Since 1980, the club - 'Thanthania Yubak Sangha' has taken over the responsibilities of this happening Puja.
For the very first time, after almost 90 years, this Sarswati Puja has adopted a theme, thanks to writer and film-maker Asish Basak
The small market area will have a brand new look and stunning formation for four days, 8th till 11th February during Saraswati Puja celebrations, presented by Thanthania Yubak Sangha.
A  23 ft. high pointed structure, with unfinished edges on top & the symbolic slanting roof, will house the benign Goddess of LearningThe materials used are bamboos, thermocol, fibre, clay, etc.
The small lane will be decorated with various figurines and artifacts that bear the stamp of Nagas, Mizos and Lepchas and their mystic Art & Culture.
During last few Durga Puja and Kali Puja, Asish Basak has done North-East Indian touch projects like 'Nagaland in Nagerbazar',  'M-Factor' at Baranagar, 'Chalte Chalte' at Patuatola. This time Asish Basak has envisioned a rural ambience, with telling impact of mixture of Nagas, Mizos and Lepchas.
Elaborating more on this ideation, Asish Basak stated that he got this idea of focussing on North-East culture first when he was doing research for his documentary film and book-'Lesser Known Religions in India'. At that juncture, he realized that many people in cosmopolitan Kolkata have very less knowledge about North-Eastern states of India or tribal religion, their customs, art & culture, etc. Hence, he thought Puja theme will be an ideal mass-connect platform to showcase the rich vein of heritage of such exotic places.

"We are very excited to present a Theme Puja for the 1st time in our glorious history of this Sabeki Puja of about 90 years old. We have high hopes that 'Theme Partner' Hello Kolkata will make this an unforgettable occasion for all of us," informed Rajesh Jaiswal (Convenor) and Dilip Shaw (Treasurer).
Ramesh Thakur Jaiswal (Gen. Secretary), Jawaharlal Jaiswal (President), Manoj Jaiswal (Joint Secy.) and other enthusiastic members of Thanthania Yubak Sangha are waiting with bated breath for the.inauguration on 8th Feb. eve, which will be done by a host of dignitaries, including several political heavyweights.
